Man Utd transfer round up: Jadon Sancho alternative as Dortmund issue update on star
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be trying to improve his squad this summer as he attempts to close the yawning gap to Liverpool.
The Norwegian boss is beginning to stamp his mark on the squad, with United's turnarund in fortunes since the January signing of Bruno Fernandes indicated that the future looks bright.
However, while budgets are likely to be tight, Solskjaer will feel he could do with a couple more like Fernandes to make United real contenders in next season's Premier league battle.
Here are the latest Man United transfer rumours.
Dortmund confident on Sancho stay
England international Jadon Sancho is said to be Manchester United ’s prime transfer target this summer, but Borussia Dortmund are confident he will stay put.
United have been linked with a move for the winger - formerly of Manchester rivals City - but Dortmund head of professional football Sebastian Kehl believes the star will remain in Germany.
"It is true that Jadon has a long-term contract [to 2022]," Kehl told Sport Buzzer.
"It is also true that there are no specific enquiries for him at the moment and that we all do not know how the transfer market will change amid the pandemic.
“We expect Jadon to play at BVB next season and we would all be happy about the quality he gives our team and the differences he makes."
Winger identified as Sancho alternative
If Dortmund aren't willing to sell Sancho - or the price isn't right - Solskjaer will need an alternative to fill the right-wing slot.
And that alternative could be Valencia ace Ferran Torres, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes via the Manchester Evening News.
The 20-year-old has cemented himself as a regular starter for Los Che this season and his performances have resulted in admiring glances from clubs across Europe, including Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The fact his contract expires in the summer of 2021 - and talks to extend have proven unsuccessful - makes it likely Valencia will have to cash in this summer, with the winger valued at around £50million.
Sales before signings
Manchester United will focus on player sales if they are to make significant first-team signings this summer.
United must reduce their wage bill and also raise revenue from player sales in order to make available sufficient funds to strengthen the squad.
Forward Alexis Sanchez - currently on loan at Inter - and Jesse Lingard are said to be the two players whose exits would be the most significant on this front.
Phil Jones, Andreas Pereira and Chris Smalling - on loan at Roma - are also thought to be close to the exit door at Old Trafford.
