Inter in talks with Man Utd over keeping Sanchez beyond summer (Sky Italia)

Inter Milan are reportedly in constant discussions with Man Utd over the possibility of keeping Alexis Sanchez for next season.

The striker has been on loan at the San Siro since August and is expected to sign a short-term extension so he can finish Inter's remaining matches.

In addition, Sky Italia report that Inter are interested in extended Sanchez's loan until the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

United are paying a significant portion of his £400,000-per-week salary, and will likely want that figure reduced if they are to allow Sanchez to play elsewhere for another year.

Sanchez looked to be nearing a return to Old Trafford this summer, and such a scenario seemed likely, but Inter are exploring all possibilities to retain his services.

While United would prefer to sell the Chilean, they are aware that could prove difficult in the current market.

Certainly attracting any sort of transfer fee for the 31-year-old looks out of the question, and Sanchez will not give up his extortionate wages willingly.

He has hardly set the world alight back in Italy, scoring once in 16 appearances in a season hampered by injury.

However Inter clearly value his contribution and believe he can play a pivotal role in the title run-in - which could determine whether he stays at the club next season.

Inter's sporting director Piero Ausilio said last month: "We want to keep everyone, including Alexis Sanchez. We are counting on him in the coming months.

"He was out injured for quite a while, but he did well before that in matches against  Barcelona and Sampdoria.

"I saw the Sanchez from his best campaigns in Udinese and  Arsenal.

"He didn’t have a lot of time, but he now has the chance to show his value and then we will make a decision on him."
