Man Utd 'consider' Jadon Sancho transfer alternative amid financial uncertainty

Manchester United are considering a summer swoop for Bayer Leverkusen star Leon Bailey.

The winger has played a starring role for the Bundesliga outfit who are in the hunt for a Champions League spot.

United are looking to recruit in attacking positions and have been heavily linked with Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish.

The former is likely to cost at least £100m as Borussia Dortmund look to maximise their earnings while Bailey will set them back around £40m.

United are set to emerge from the coronavirus pandemic in a far stronger position than most, but are still wary of spending huge sums of money given the current financial climate.

It has led them to seek other options with Bailey among them, reports the Daily Mail.

A move for Sancho would need United to smash their transfer record which currently stands at £89m.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has several positions he wants to strengthen and adding more than one player may prove more beneficial than recruiting just one star name.

Bailey can play in a variety of attacking roles which makes him an attractive prospect.

This term he has scored seven goals for a Leverkusen side that could yet meet United in the Europa League.

The 22-year-old moved to the BayArena in 2017 from Genk and has made over 100 appearances.

Solskjaer has made a conscious decision to add young talent to his United squad.

Recruitment has been the club's Achilles heel in recent years with a host of expensive signings failing to produce.

The recent arrival of Bruno Fernandes has proved to be a masterstroke with the Portuguese star receiving rave reviews on and off the pitch.

Having originially targeted homegrown talent Solskjaer has now seen the benefits of considering talent on the continent, of which Bailey is one.
