Matic hopes Martial can remain consistent in front of goal for Manchester United
Nemanja Matic has called on Anthony Martial to use his maiden treble as a catalyst to score even more goals for Manchester United in the future.
The Frenchman netted his first senior hat-trick in United's 3-0 win over Sheffield United on Wednesday evening.
Martial got off to a flying start by scoring a first-half brace before capping off his brilliant performance with a super finish over Simon Moore in the second half.
It's the first Premier League hat-trick scored by a United player since Robin van Persie hit three in one game in 2013.
And while Matic was full of praise for Martial and his performance, the Serbian midfielder has demanded that his team-mate now pushes on and keeps it up.
'I think it was very important for him to score goals, for every striker it's important, for his confidence,' Matic told MUTV.
'I'm happy that our strikers are in good condition, tonight Anthony was man of the match, every chance he had went in.
'Let's see in the future what he can do for us. But I'm happy for him. Congratulations to him.'
Martial has now scored a career-high 14 Premier League goals this season, while he has 19 goals to his name across all competitions.
The win saw United extend their unbeaten run to 13 matches in all competitions, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men sit fifth in the table – two points adrift of Chelsea and six points behind Leicester in third.
