Man Utd fans love what Maguire did vs Newcastle
There was a moment midway through the second half of Manchester United's emphatic 4-1 victory over Newcastle that supporters loved.
Many have since highlighted it on social media as the moment when fans saw what Harry Maguire could bring to the side from an attacking viewpoint.
Maguire was a bystander for much of the second half, as Newcastle remained deep in their defensive shape in a damage limitation tactic from Steve Bruce once his side were down and out.
Although he was briefly troubled by Matty Longstaff and Dwight Gayle in the first half, this was the Maguire many United fans have been longing to see since his £80million arrival from Leicester.
With the clock on 78 minutes and United 4-1 up, Maguire was presented with a Newcastle side still hanging back, so took it upon himself to bring the ball forward. He then jinked inside two defenders onto his right foot and powered a 30-yard effort at goal that Martin Dubravka was forced to parry away. Old Trafford roared its approval.
And many United fans highlighted the moment - and Maguire's overall performance against Newcastle - as a promising sign.
Maguire set his United teammates a challenge to string a streak of wins together after the Newcastle victory.
"You've got to put wins and performances together and it's really important you go on runs in this league and we haven't really found that consistency to put three, four, five wins together. It's something we need to work on," Maguire told MUTV after the win. "We're a young group, we're working and there's positives to take from today but now we're focused on Saturday."
