ROMELU LUKAKU 'WILL CUT HOLIDAY SHORT IN BID TO PROVE MAN UTD WORTH'

Man utd evening news live
Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku is reportedly set to show up to pre-season training on Monday despite not being obligated to return for another week.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will welcome back several members of his first-team on July 1, although players who represented their countries in June will be allowed extra time off.

Lukaku scored three goals as Belgium recorded 3-0 wins over Kazakhstan and Scotland, before jetting off to the USA for holdiday. But according to The Sun, he has decided to go back to United's Carrington training base early in a bid to get fit and prove he can be a key player for United.

Inter Milan and Juventus are both interested in signing Lukaku, but United's determination to stick to their £75million valuation could see the Serie A duo priced out of a move.

The Sun claim that Lukaku is aware of this and keen to impress Solskjaer enough to stay in the first-team picture in case he is forced to stay at Old Trafford.

Lukaku fell behind Marcus Rashford in the striker pecking order last season and wants to be a regular starter wherever he ends up next season.

Rashford scored 10 goals in 2,345 Premier League minutes, while Lukuku netted 13 in 2,130.
