SOLSKJAER URGES BOARD TO COMPLETE THIRD SUMMER TRANSFER THIS WEEK (MIRROR)

Man utd news updates live:
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has called on the Manchester United board to finalise a deal for Sean Longstaff this week.

United's players are set to return to pre-season training at Carrington on Monday as they look to bounce back from a poor end to last term.

Solskjaer had wanted his transfer business done before now although only two new faces have arrived in Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The United boss also wants a central defender and a central midfielder at least, with Newcastle midfielder Longstaff a target.

United are looking to pounce with Longstaff's future uncertain following the exit of Rafa Benitez.

Newcastle are likely to demand around £20m plus add-ons for the 21-year-old midfielder.

Ans Solskjaer wants the transfer to be completed before the end of the week before switching to his other targets.

United jet out for their pre-season tour of Australia and the Far East next Monday and Solskjaer wants Longstaff to be part of the travelling party.

United are also keen on Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes but Longstaff has been made a priority after breaking into the Newcastle first-team last term.

He could earn around £75,000-a-week on a long term deal at Old Trafford despite appearing to rule out a summer move at the start of the month.

But United are ready to test Newcastle's resolve with a bid for the midfielder and are growing increasingly confident of completing a deal with Longstaff now considering his future in the wake of Benitez's departure.

Solskjaer will put United's players through their paces on Monday when they return to training at Carrington as he looks to improve their fitness ahead of the new campaign.
