Newcastle demanding Man Utd pay FIVE times Longstaff's transfer value

Man utd news updates:
Manchester United will have to break Newcastle's transfer record if they want to prise Sean Longstaff away from St James Park this summer.

The Chronicle Live has claimed that the Magpies are holding out for a fee which would exceed the club-record £35million they received from Liverpool for Andy Carroll in 2013.

Managerless Toon, who saw Rafa Benitez step down as boss when his contract expired at the end of last month, recently sold Ayoze Perez to Leicester in a £30m deal.

And although youth product Longstaff is highly-rated at Newcastle , the club is reportedly willing to part ways with another fans' favourite if the price is right.

This is despite the midfielder currently being valued at just £6.3million according to Transfermarkt, a website dedicated to football number crunching.

Mirror Football revealed over the weekend how Newcastle ace Longstaff is considering his future following the shock exit of Benitez.

Sources close to the Toon midfielder – wanted by Old Trafford boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – confirm he is “bitterly upset” about Benitez leaving St James Park.

All of which is further encouragement for Man United in their pursuit of Longstaff, 21, who is currently recovering from knee ligament damage sustained in March.

Solskjaer views the Newcastle playmaker as another vital piece in the ongoing overhaul of his United squad after being impressed with his breakthrough season in the Premier League.

Longstaff fits the Reds’ transfer strategy as they look to lure some of the finest young “home” talent in the English game.

They have signed £15millon Wales winger Daniel James, 21, from Swansea and Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, also 21, for £50m.
