Man Utd 'turned down Inter's offer of Nainggolan or Icardi' for Lukaku

Man utd news updates live
Manchester United reportedly turned down Inter Milan's offer of Radja Nainggolan or Mauro Icardi in part-exchange for their striker Romelu Lukaku.

The Italian club are keen to sign Belgian striker Lukaku this summer but United's asking price of £80million is proving prohibitive for them.

And, according to La Repubblica newspaper, they tried to offer United either Nainggolan or Icardi as a makeweight to drive down the cost.

But United had no interest in either the Belgium midfielder or the Argentina centre forward as well as holding firm on their valuation.

Lukaku, 26, who scored 15 times in 45 matches for United last season, was part of the United squad flying off to Australia for the first leg of their pre-season tour.

However, his Old Trafford future remains uncertain. New Inter manager Antonio Conte is keen on Lukaku and reports over the weekend suggest Juventus may have entered the chase for him.

It came after Inter director Beppe Marotta confirmed both Nainggolan and Icardi are not in Conte's plans for the forthcoming campaign.

'When building a project, you have to find the right profiles,' Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

'We had the opportunity to speak to the players themselves, with full respect for their contractual situations, but explained the position of the club, which I think is the most important thing.

'Both players know full well they are not part of our plans. That doesn't mean we doubt their talent or capabilities, as I consider them to be two excellent players.

'Talent can win you games, but the squad wins you the league, which is the main objective we are setting out for. They are not part of our project, with all due respect.'
