Solskjaer names two players who could replace Herrera

Man utd news update live:
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he doesn't need to dip into the transfer market to replace Ander Herrera - as he has not one but two players ready to fill his shoes.

Herrera joined Paris-Saint Germain on a free transfer earlier this month, claiming United had been too slow to meet his demands for a new contract.

United have targeted Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff, but the Magpies want £50million for a player who has only made 11 senior appearances.

However, Solskjaer is confident that Andreas Pereira and Scott McTominay are ready to step up and fill the void left by Herrera's departure.

The United boss also has James Garner - who scored for the Red Devils in last week's pre-season friendly win Perth Glory.

But while Solskjaer predicts Garner will be "a top player", he says Pereira and McTominay are ready for the here and now.

"Jimmy is young, he’s very young - only 18 - so you can’t expect too much from him but you can see he is going to be a top player," said Solskjaer of Garner, in quotes reported by Metro .

"Andy [Pereira] I expect a lot more from, Scotty [McTominay] I expect a lot more from. Those two between them had maybe 15, 20 starts last season.

"You expect them to have at least 20 each this year, maybe even more. That’s maybe two players into one that can replace Ander [Herrera]."

United have already signed winger Daniel James from Swansea for £15m and completed a £50m deal for full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace , but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has demanded further activity.

They are trying to sign Leicester defender Harry Maguire for what looks set to be a world-record fee of more than £80million.
