Sir Alex Ferguson 'lobbying' for Man Utd to complete one summer transfer

Man utd news updates live:
Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly urged Manchester United to sign countryman John McGinn.

McGinn, 24, played a key role in Aston Villa's promotion last season and is expected to be vital to their hopes of survival this term.

He has been linked with United earlier in the summer and now Ferguson is said to be 'lobbying hard' for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to move for the midfielder.

The Sun reports Ferguson still offers advice to Solskjaer on potential transfer targets as he bids to strengthen at Old Trafford.

And the legendary United boss believes McGinn would be a good signing, having developed a close friendship with his grandad Jack.

United boss Solskjaer is eager to strengthen in midfield this summer following Ander Herrera's exit.

Sean Longstaff is a top target but Newcastle are growing increasingly confident of keeping the 21-year-old.

United have also been linked with Sporting Lisbon's Bruno Fernandes.

However, the Red Devils have not yet made a move and believe clubs are using their necessity to strengthen to drum up interest in their players from elsewhere.

United's transfer dealings are also likely to depend on Paul Pogba's future at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman wants to leave United with former club Juventus and Real Madrid both interested.

Real have been tipped to increase their offer for Pogba once Gareth Bale's exit is confirmed.

But United will not let the deal go through at the end of the window when they have next to no time to strengthen.
