Solskjaer issues challenge to Maguire ahead of Liverpool clash

Man utd news update live:
Solskjaer has told Maguire to rise to the challenge ahead of Liverpool clash.

"He's already shown how good he is. He shows us every single day but of course in big games you get more pressure at Man United, and at Liverpool," the United boss said.

"The big clubs and in the big games, the ones who can step up. That shows the character of you and I don't doubt for one second Harry is going to play a good game against them."

United have kept two clean sheets in the Premier League so far this season, both at Old Trafford against Chelsea and Leicester City.

While Solskjaer won't be judging Maguire on one game, he believes the England international can be the "catalyst" for a positive afternoon against Liverpool, although he also reminded the centre back of the golden chances he's missed recently in defeat at West Ham and Newcastle.

"You don't buy a player for one type of game. We signed Harry because we can see a leader who can be here for many years," he said.

"But if we can get a great performance from Harry to build on, that's going to be the catalyst to start from. If he can head the ball between the posts when he's three yards out that would be a good start!"
