Chelsea vs Man Utd preview: Will Blues avenge harsh opening-day thrashing?

Chelsea vs Man utd EFL:
Frank Lampard was taught a harsh lesson back in August, but Wednesday's Carabao Cup fourth-round tie, live on Sky Sports, provides an opportunity to show how far his side has come.

Lampard was in charge of Derby last season when his side knocked Manchester United out of the Carabao Cup at the third-round stage - a 2-2 draw before the Rams won 8-7 on penalties at Old Trafford.

United were ruthless in a 4-0 win over Chelsea on the opening weekend of the season but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not expect a similar scoreline at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard's Chelsea are on a seven-game winning run in all competitions, with youngsters Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori cementing their first-team positions after spending last season on loan.

Team News
Chelsea

N'Golo Kante, Ross Barkley, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger are all expected to miss out for Chelsea on Wednesday night. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is also sidelined.

Christian Pulisic scored a hat-trick against Burnley on Saturday and Frank Lampard may look to pair him with Callum Hudson-Odoi on the flanks in midweek.

Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud will hope to benefit from rotation to get a rare start up front.

Man Utd

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed Paul Pogba is out until December as he continues to recover from a foot injury.

Diogo Dalot, Nemanja Matic and Luke Shaw have not travelled with the Manchester United squad and will miss out once again.

Solskjaer says it is likely both Brandon Williams and James Garner will get minutes on Wednesday. Expect Williams to start with Shaw unavailable.

The United boss may feel inclined to revert back to a three-man defence at Stamford Bridge after it worked effectively against Liverpool.

Marcos Rojo or Phil Jones will start as one of the three centre-backs as Axel Tuanzebe has failed to recover from injury in time.

Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Andreas Pereira compete to play as United's No.10 on Wednesday.

Probable Lineups

Chelsea: Caballero, Reece James, Zouma, Tomori, Emerson, Jorginho, Kovacic, Mount, Hudson-Odoi, Batshuayi, Pulisic

Man Utd: Romero, Williams, Jones, Maguire, Lindelof, Wan-Bissaka, Fred, McTominay, Lingard, Martial, Rashford

Prediction
Chelsea 2-1 Man Utd
