Owen: If I was Klopp, I would tell Reds players to kick Rashford on his ankle
Owen unravels how he would've instruct his players to injure Rashford if he was Klopp
Michael Owen has raised eyebrows after urging Liverpool's players to try and deliberately injure Marcus Rashford during Sunday's game at Manchester United.
An injury-hit United squad were forced into all three substitutions during the first half of Sunday's goalless draw with Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Ander Herrera all having to come off.
Rashford was another whose continued participation was in doubt after he pulled up with an apparent ankle issue, but the United striker was forced to battle on through the pain barrier at Old Trafford.
And Owen , who played for both clubs during his 17-year career, believes the Liverpool players should have done more to reduce United to 10 men.
Speaking on commentary on for beIN Sport: "I tell you what, if I was Jurgen Klopp in that dressing room at half-time with Manchester United not being able to bring on another substitute, I'd be saying: 'Right, first person, first opportunity, go and kick Rashford on the ankle that he has been limping on for the first half."
The comments inevitably made their way on to social media to leave a flurry on angry responses from United supporters who were shocked by the ex-England star's comments.
Rashford eventually played for the full game but is now a doubt for Tuesday's trip to Crystal Palace.
When asked about the severity of Rashford's injury after the game, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: "No idea at the moment, but we've got two days of recovery.
"If he plays [against Palace] I'll be maybe surprised.
"I've never seen the like of this before, three hamstrings in the first-half. Rashy obviously was kicked, he did his ankle straight away, we should have taken him off as well, but we didn't did we?"
