Brandon Williams reveals reaction to Man Utd senior call-up

Brandon Williams admittedly it was a huge shock to be called up to the Manchester United first team squad for their famous away victory at Paris Saint-Germain last year - and even his close family members didn't believe it.

Williams travelled with the United seniors for the PSG Champions League last 16 second leg in the French capital, the first time he'd been included on a first team trip.

The teenage left-back had been in the Under-23s before then and had to wait until early this season for his senior debut. Williams has since made 24 appearances for United's first team across all competitions under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He revealed while speaking on an official United Google Hangout his reaction to being included in the PSG trip and the great experience it provided, even if he didn't feature on that famous night in Paris.

“It was my first time travelling with the first team,” said Williams. “I didn't know until about three hours before the flight. It was something new, something different.

“I was seeing everyone up close, seeing how they prepare for games. I'd never seen Man United before like that, so it was special.

“It was just excitement, I rang my family straight away. They didn't believe me! I had to convince them and then I had to go and get my suit and get ready to go!"

Williams then opened up on the faith shown in him by Solskjaer and the United coaching staff. The 19-year-old and Mason Greenwood have both been handed regular match time in the past season and Williams has grasped his opportunity.

He added: “Yeah, you can tell how much game time and impact that young players have, to be honest.

"If you have trust in them they'll provide, they'll take the chance.”
