Victor Osimhen praises Ighalo for proving critics wrong at Manchester United
Lille forward Victor Osimhen has heaped praise on Odion Ighalo for proving his doubters wrong at Manchester United amid speculation he could follow his international teammate to Old Trafford.
United were desperate to sign a forward during the January transfer window and opted to bring in Ighalo on a six-month loan deal after seeing a move for Erling Haaland fail.
Their decision raised eyebrows with former United stars Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand both questioning the move.
However, after netting four goals in just three starts, Ighalo has proved his critics wrong and United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted the club are open to keeping him permanently.
Osimhen has been heavily linked with a move to United with French outlet Le 10 Sport claiming the youngster is a priority target for Solskjaer, though the MEN understand the Reds remain firmly focused on landing Jadon Sancho, Jack Grealish and James Maddison.
The Nigeria international praised Ighalo for the start he made on his return to England.
"He has shut the mouth of the critics," he said on Instagram.
"I am really happy. He is so amazing.
"Everything that he has done for the national team, it will be difficult before I will fill in his shoes or even to surpass him will take a lot of time.
"The kind of player that endures such criticism - from the World Cup, national team. He did well to qualify us, for me he's already a legend.
"Ighalo is there and will continue to be there because he's done so well not just in football."
