Pogba 'to be assessed by doctors this week' as he looks to return from injury

Paul Pogba is set to be assessed by doctors at the end of the week to determine whether the Manchester United midfielder is ready to return to full training.

The Frenchman has managed just 71 minutes of football since he first picked up a recurring ankle injury in September.

Pogba has been running at 85 per cent since his surgery in January but is hopeful of getting the go ahead to step things up when he meets with medical staff in the next few days, according to The Sun.

If the 26-year-old can make a full return to training by the end of the month he could put himself in contention to feature in the Manchester derby on March 8.

He shared another video of his rehabilitation on his Instagram account after posts last week showing him running and swimming.

But Pogba's future at Old Trafford is still very much up in the air.

The club could be forced to sell the midfielder in the summer with long-term targets Real Madrid having a valuation of no more than £50million.

Pogba has also been linked with a move back to Juventus but they too are not expected to splash out heavily without selling first.

The player's agent Mino Raiola has been criticised by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for fueling the transfer speculation.

Raiola recently said Pogba may not be able to 'escape' United and responded to the manager's comments by saying his client was not a 'prisoner'.

But the agent back-tracked slightly on those comments claiming he did not intend to offend the Norweigan.

‘I certainly did not intend to have any disrespect to the club or towards (Solskjaer),’ he Raiola.

‘Paul has a contract with Manchester United and wants to get back fit as quickly as possible to be a positive factor until the end of the season.’
