Shearer warns Utd that they will continue to fluctuate despite Brighton victory
Alan Shearer has warned Manchester United that their performances will continue to fluctuate, despite a confident display from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side to beat Brighton.
It's the second successive game that United have won at home and scored three goals and Shearer lauded their incisive attacking play on the Match of the Day highlights show.
"I thought they were brilliant today, Manchester United ," he said. "In terms of when they got the ball they are going for the kill, we're going to hit you right through the middle.
"Although I thought Brighton played right into their hands at times, they exploited it perfectly. When they won the ball first, they got it forward."
Shearer then added the caveat that United's inexperience means they will still have games like the one they lost a week ago at Bournemouth.
United have struggled for consistency this season and therefore sit seventh in the Premier League, 10 points off the top four.
"You have to accept this because of how young they are," added Shearer. "I felt it was slightly unfair to put the burden on those [young players] as well with those being so inexperienced and young. That might change in January.
"You will get performances like last weekend [at Bournemouth] but you also get ones like today. I thought they were excellent."
Shearer then picked out Rashford, Fred, Daniel James and Premier League full debutant Brandon Williams for praise while analysing United's goals, after all four impressed against Brighton.
"I think Fred deserves a mention as well as he played very well today," added Shearer.
"Martial and Rashford coming in behind finishing [a move] off here. James with his electrifying pace. He sits the defender down and he puts it on the plate for Rashford. That should be in the back of the net and I'm not sure how he misses that [chance]. Rashford and Martial again causing all sorts of problems.
"This is absolutely magnificent from Rashford. He was very good today.
"Special mention to Brandon Williams who was on his first Premier League start, he enjoyed a very good game as well."
