How Man Utd transfer target Maddison compares to Pereira
Man utd potential transfer:
James Maddison enhanced his reputation with another shining display last weekend as he fired Leicester to victory against Arsenal and up to second in the Premier League table.
Manchester Evening News used Wyscout to compare the two players' key stats from the opening three months of the 2019-20 season.
Starting with the players' goal tallies, Maddison has scored six times in all competitions at a rate of 0.48 goals per game (outperforming his xG of 0.23), while Pereira has scored just once - his deflected effort against Southampton - at a rate of 0.09 goals per game (slightly lower than his 0.13 xG).
Maddison has assisted three goals in his 13 appearances this season. Pereira is yet to register an assist.
Moving onto shot count, Maddison averages 2.96 strikes on goal per game to Pereira's 2.43, but Pereira does have a far greater shot accuracy, with 41 per cent of his efforts hitting the target to Maddison's 27 per cent.
It might surprise you to learn that United, as a team, have averaged more passes per game than Leicester at the beginning of the season, but Maddison (45 passes per game) has averaged far more than Pereira (31 passes per game), with a greater pass completion rate (84 per cent to 75 per cent).
Maddison averages more dribbles per game than Pereira (4.64 to 3.41) and has a greater success rate with those dribbles (60 per cent to 55 per cent).
Pereira has proved himself to be useful when United do not have the ball and he has averaged 2.43 interceptions per game in comparison to Maddison's average of 1.6.
Interestingly, though, Maddison recovers the ball on average 4.56 times per game, while Pereira's average is significantly lower at 3.23.
Maddison is fouled 2.64 times per game, with Pereira on the end of an average of 0.99 fouls per game.
Maddison's passing stats are also significantly better than Pereira's. He averages 2.32 through balls per game to Pereira's 0.9 and has a higher success rate with those passes (28 per cent to 20).
Pereira has averaged 4.49 passes into the final third with a success rate of 62 per cent but Maddison has averaged far more, with 7.84 passes per game on average and a 69 per cent success rate.
It should not come as a massive surprise to learn just how comprehensively Maddison has outperformed Pereira this term, but the stats do show just how much the Leicester man could improve Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team.
