WHY LIVERPOOL COULD SCUPPER MAN UTD SESSEGNON MOVE

Manchester United have Ryan Sessegnon in their sights - but any move could be scuppered by Liverpool .

That's because Sessegnon is a boyhood Liverpool fan.

United have reportedly made contact with Fulham over a potential summer swoop for Ryan Sessegnon.

The Cottagers are resigned to losing the winger, who will turn 19 on Saturday, this summer following their relegation back to the Championship and he has just one year remaining on his contract.

Tottenham and Juventus have also been linked with a move for Sessegnon but United are the first club to make a direct enquiry , according to Sky Sports.

But Sessegnon is a boyhood Liverpool fan, and sources close to the player have said he dreams of a move to Anfield, according to the Daily Express .

The Express says the teenager won't get his dream move this summer as he is not currently a target for the Reds.

However, if he were to move to Old Trafford, he could kiss goodbye to hopes of one day joining Liverpool, as moves between the two great North West rivals are almost as rare as rocking-horse droppings.

The last direct move from United to Liverpool was Phil Chisnall back in 1964.

Fulham are thought to want around £40million for Sessegnon.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to promote youth at United and Sessegnon would add to a plethora of young talent already in his ranks.

Despite playing an instrumental role in Fulham's promotion to the top flight in 2017-18, Sessegnon endured a difficult campaign at the highest level.

He failed to hold down a starting spot under Claudio Ranieri after the Italian succeeded Slavisa Jokanovic at Craven Cottage.

Sessegnon played on the right wing to accommodate Ryan Babel after Scott Parker took the reins following the sacking of Ranieri.

But his struggles have not seen his stock fall and he remains one of the most sought-after English youngsters in the game.

He has already clocked up more than 100 senior appearances at the age of 18 and became the first Championship player to be nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award in 2018.

Sessegnon has represented England at every youth level from Under-16 to Under-21.
