Lingard 'wanted by four PL clubs but Man Utd could still trigger extension'
Jesse Lingard is reportedly wanted by four Premier League clubs but Manchester United could still trigger his one-year contract extension.
The midfielder has struggled for form this season but he is not without potential suitors including Leicester, Everton, West Ham and Newcastle, according to 90min.
The England international went on a downward spiral after the 2018 World Cup but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looked to have rejuvenated his career after replacing Jose Mourinho as United boss.
However, he has endured a frustrating season without a goal or assist in the league and now faces strong competition for a place in the Red Devils' midfield.
January signing Bruno Fernandes has already managed three goals and four assists while Fred and Scott McTominay are also ahead of him in the pecking order.
Lingard's contract is set to expire in 2021 but the club are mulling over whether to trigger the extension which would keep him at Old Trafford until 2022.
Solskjaer coached the 27-year-old in United's academy and has a good relationship with the midfielder.
Should United take up the option, Lingard is likely to be given a squad role rather than a regular first-teamer.
He has played just 23 minutes of Premier League football since January 11 but is still attracting interest from several clubs.
Previous reports have claimed Lingard is keen to fight for his place at Old Trafford but the club may consider raising funds in an attempt to land Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho.
