Man Utd 2-0 Man City: Martial & McT lift Utd to 5th with a PL double over City

Manchester United completed a league double over Manchester City to leave Liverpool on the verge of a first Premier League title.

Two costly mistakes from Ederson handed Manchester United a derby victory over Manchester City on Sunday to put Liverpool on the brink of a first Premier League title.

Anthony Martial fired the Red Devils ahead in the first half with a shot that City's goalkeeper should probably have kept out at his near post.

United survived some heavy second-half pressure until Scott McTominay scored an injury-time second after Ederson's throw went straight to his feet.

Foden spreads the ball to Sterling, who controls it and attempts to curl one into the bottom-right corner. It is at a nice height for De Gea to push aside.

13' Aguero dribbles past Maguire with a nutmeg

Maguire fails to get any real distance on his headed clearance but Aguero, played in by Sterling, is unable to make him pay as Matic produces a good challenge in the box.

16' CHANCE! Daniel James' shot denied by Ederson

United turn over possession 10 yards inside the opposition half and within seconds Fernandes plays in James. The angle is against the young winger and his shot is easily kept out by Ederson.

22' CHANCE! Martial's shot blocked by Otamendi

Martial does brilliantly to control Williams' floated pass. He takes the shot early after spotting Ederson off his line, but it is blocked by the body of Otamendi.

28' AGAIN! Martial's shot saved by Ederson

Martial gets the better of Fernandinho down the left-hand side and carries the ball into the box. He sets himself to pick out the far corner with his curler, but in the end he shoots pretty much straight at Ederson.

30' GOAL! Man Utd 1-0 Man City (Martial)

Fernandes chips a free-kick over City's wall and Martial, having got away from a couple of players, volleys past Ederson at the City keeper's near post. Ederson will wonder exactly how that one squirmed through his grasp.

42' Yellow Card! Fred booked

Fred goes to ground inside the City box, but referee Mike Dean feels he dived under minimal contact from Otamendi and reaches into his pocket.

48' OFFSIDE! Aguero's goal disallowed

Sterling slips the ball through for Aguero and the striker fires a shot past De Gea, who does not even bother trying to make the save. The offside flag goes up, but it goes to a VAR call because it looked incredibly tight. The decision goes United's way.

49' Ederson almost gifts Utd a second

Ederson allows a simple pass to squirm under his foot. He just about redeems himself by winning a 50-50 challenge with Martial right under the crossbar.

56' CLOSE! Foden's long shot denied by De Gea

Foden wins a corner off Williams and City work it short. The ball is shifted to Foden around 25 yard from goal and his swerving shot is palmed over the crossbar by De Gea.

61' CLOSE! Otamendi's header wide out

Otamendi gets his head to Gundogan's corner, flashing the ball just over the bar. City are starting to enjoy some sustained pressure.

70' CHANCE! Daniel James's shot denied by Ederson

James puts his pace to good use again by getting away from Otamendi. He has the option to pull the ball back for Fernandes, but he instead goes it alone and Ederson pushes the powerful shot over the crossbar.

90' CLOSE! Ederson makes timely block

Ederson reads the danger well to race well outside his box and sweep up before James can pounce. Five minutes have been added on at Old Trafford.

96' GOAL! Man Utd 2-0 Man City (McTominay)

In a rush to get the ball forward, Ederson rolls the ball straight to McTominay around 40 yards from goal. The United substitute does not have to think twice - he takes on the shot first time, finds the unguarded net and leaves City's keeper red facbooked
