SOLSKJAER RESPECTFULLY HITS BACK AT FORMER UNITED BOSS VAN GAAL AFTER CRITICISM
Newly appointed Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hit back at the views of his predecessor Louis van Gaal, after the Dutchman decided to brand his side's play 'park-the-bus and counter-attack.'
Van Gaal gave a damning assessment of the way Solskjaer has set up United since taking over from Jose Mourinho, insisting that the parking of the bus style still remains, but with a reliance on counter-attack.
After winning his first game as permanent manager, Solskjaer decided to address the quotes yet maintained a respectful manner.
'Van Gaal is entitled to his opinion,' said in his post-match press conference after United had defeated Watford 2-1.
'We've been looking at games. Some games, we've pressed really high and won the ball up there and dominated.
'It's about where you win the ball. You want to defend, to win the ball to go forward. You have to win the ball to attack and for me there's two ways.
'Can you attack quickly, like we did today — why not? As long as your intention is, when you win the ball, to attack.'
Support for Solskjaer however is rife, with fans unfurling a huge banner at Old Trafford to celebrate the full-time position of the former striker.
Club legend David Beckham has also voiced his approval at the full-time appointment of his former team-mate, and backs Solskjaer to bring the good times back.
'He is loved by the fans and the players and every individual that is at the club,' he told Sky Sports News.
'He's done a great job so far and it will continue. It's great for the club and great for him.'
