Mourinho launches sly dig at Solskjaer by suggesting successor would struggle.

Mourinho allege that Ole is going to struggle after given the permanent role.

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has launched a sly dig at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by suggesting that the Norwegian would struggle if he got the job on a permanent basis.

Mourinho was sacked by United in December, with Solskjaer taking over on a caretaker basis.

United have been hugely impressive under Solskjaer so far, winning 13 of their 16 games and losing just one.

However, when discussing Scott Parker taking over as caretaker manager at Fulham following the departure of Claudio Ranieri, Mourinho indicated that clubs can sometimes receive an immediate boost from having a new manager.

'Can [Fulham] get a better manager than Claudio? Not at all,' Mourinho told beIN Sports.

'Can you compare the experience between Claudio and Scott, who is going to coach a team for the first time? Not at all.

'But sometimes in football, and you have the example with my former club (Man Utd hiring Solskjaer), that sometimes changes on the immediate - I don't believe too much in these changes in the long term - but these changes on the immediate, there are sometimes some positive results.'

Given how impressive Solskjaer has been so far, he will surely have a good chance of getting the United job permanently in the summer.

For now, Solskjaer is focused on attempting to end the season strongly. United are in fourth place in the Premier League and are through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where they will face Wolves away.

United face a major challenge in the last-16 of the Champions League as they face Paris Saint-Germain away trailing 2-0 from the first leg.

Mourinho took over as United boss in 2016 and won the Europa League and the League Cup in his first season in charge.

Matters turned sour this season, though, with Mourinho losing the faith of many of his players, including midfielder Paul Pogba.
